Why do we learn Religious Education?

At AJK, we believe that a coherent and rigorous religious education (R.E.) curriculum is an essential means by which to explore questions as to the purpose of life, the nature of reality, issues of morality and the interaction between culture and society. It is a powerful lens through which we can ask questions about what it means to be human – and explore a range of answers to that question.

Our approach

Pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 have four R.E. lessons per term. Each term, they study a different religion: Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. They attempt to answer an overarching ‘enquiry question’ that allows for analysis of similarity and difference within and between religions.

From Years 7 to 13, students are given the opportunity to engage in debate in an academic context, always backed up with actual knowledge. They write analytically and evaluatively, using their knowledge of religious doctrine and philosophical and ethical questions alongside their knowledge of what makes a strong argument to critique a variety of perspectives.
