AJK Spring Concert

On Tuesday 2nd April, the music department hosted their first ever spring concert, involving a wide range of ensembles as well as our year 9 music scholars. The year 9 music scholars were chosen based on their potential in the subject and exceptional effort in lessons, and our concert featured some excellent vocal performances by Elina, Rennea, Lanya and Egheosa, an impressive solo piano performance from Cem, and an original composition by Cem and Jim.

The evening also featured the first public performance of Beginners Band, a group of year 8 and 9 pupils who have been learning a new instrument from scratch as part of their timetabled enrichment. These pupils have shown a great deal of courage and dedication to their practice over the past few months to get up to the standard required to perform to an audience.

Other highlights included AJK Band, guitar club, musical theatre and a flute duet from two GCSE music students, demonstrating the wide range of music activities that are on offer at AJK. The newly formed KS3 and KS4 choir finished off the evening with a performance of two songs they have been learning for an ARK network wide singing programme, Alebrije and Beautiful Creatures – which even involved some audience participation!

A big well done to all pupils involved, and especially to our musicians of the term, chosen for the dedication and commitment to extra-curricular music: Raheim, Aleksandra and Lilly. We very much hope to welcome you to our Summer Concert, which will be held in the assembly hall on the 9th July.
