The Merchant of Venice at the Shakespeare Schools Festival

The year eight cast of The Merchant of Venice captivated their audience at this year’s Shakespeare Schools Festival in central London. The actors’ command of Shakespearean language, combined with the ensemble’s physicality, rendered their performance both meaningful and humorous. Every student worked tenaciously to create this mature production; rehearsing after school, learning lines, designing and making props, even designing the lighting themselves. The cast were praised by the theatre technicians for their professional conduct throughout the evening, and showed great adaptability and courage in rehearsing and performing in a new space. It was a great pleasure for their parents, friends and teachers to see the culmination of their hard work in such a memorable evening.
