Reflecting on our emotions in Character
In Character this term, all of our secondary pupils have been considering what really causes our feelings and behaviour. Using CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) as a model, we have begun to understand that it is our beliefs/thoughts about an event that is really the cause, rather than the event itself. If we change our thinking, we can change our reaction. This revelation has allowed many of our pupils to feel more in control and plan to stop unhealthy emotions before they occur. Being able to implement CBT, changing our unhealthy thinking habits, is all about practise. Using reflectiveness and the tools we have learnt over the last two weeks will help pupils to be more aware of their emotions and take greater responsibility in managing them.
