Wonderful Work in English
Our first half-term has been an exciting one for Year 9 in English!
Pupils have been building on their knowledge of Victorian Literature from Oliver Twist in Year 7 and Sherlock Holmes in Year 8 by studying Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel Jane Eyre. They have been learning highly sophisticated contextual knowledge, such as Victorian ideas about childhood and education. This gives pupils challenging and exciting content and provides an introduction to the kinds of skills they will use studying Jekyll and Hyde at the start of KS4 next year.
In the example shown, Mariam has used pink pen to show the context in each section of her essay. This allows us see how the powerful knowledge that pupils acquire helps them to write some exceptionally high-level answers. Mariam should also be commended for her thorough editing in green pen, which she has used to make her academic language even more precise. Well done Mariam!
